Meet Brandon

Brandon’s journey in journalism began while sitting in Mrs. Shirley’s third-grade class on April 19, 1995, a day that would become one of the darkest in American history. Like everyone else, he was shocked by the horrific scene unfolding 70 miles away in downtown Oklahoma City. In a moment that would change his life, his teacher brought a television to the classroom and she and the students watched local news coverage of the Oklahoma City Bombing for the rest of the day. Brandon went home and was glued to the TV set for the next few days. It was when he saw the adults in his life hanging on every bit of information that reporters on the ground were providing when Brandon realized the importance of journalism. And he knew it was something he was meant to do.

Brandon’s first job was working as a staff writer at a smalltown newspaper. He got his start in television while attending the University of Central Oklahoma, where he served as an anchor, reporter and producer for the daily student cable newscast. In 2009, he moved south to become a multimedia journalist for KPLC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was recognized by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. After a couple of years in Louisiana, he moved back to Oklahoma to become a multimedia journalist for KJRH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tulsa. While there, he covered a wide range of breaking news including the devastating 2013 Moore, Oklahoma tornado. Brandon then spent the next few years as a reporter at KCTV-5 in Kansas City, and as weekend evening anchor and chief political reporter at WSIL-TV, the ABC affiliate in southern Illinois. In 2018, he moved to Memphis, where he served as weekend morning anchor and reporter for NBC affiliate WMC-TV.

In 2022, Brandon moved to Denver, where he currently serves as a reporter for ABC affiliate Denver7 and primarily covers state and local politics.

He is a proud graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma and citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.
